On Doug Loveday’s recent trip to Kenya, he found himself packed into a small tin sheet church with about 150 people.
It was hot and crowded and time to celebrate Communion together.
The man in charge mixed together some Ribena and water.
Then with a coffee cup as a jug, he tried to carefully pour the red juice into the tiny communion cups on a tray.
Of course, you can imagine what happened.
If he poured too slow, the juice dribbled down the side of the cup and spilled.
If he poured too fast, the juice splashed over all the cups and spilled.
Some cups got knocked over and there was more mess.

Too bad! Or is it?
Lord, what are you showing me?

And then Doug began to smile.
This was the good news of Jesus!
When Jesus entered the mess and brokenness of our lives and this world, it was messy and bloody.
All so that we could live – this was the great love of God.
Thank you, LORD Jesus.

… messy – Kenya
