Advent at Walmart

Chocolate letters for the kids’ stockings.
Gifts for the care packages for the university students from church.
Shampoo.
Oh and what about Kleenex?

Libby’s mind was full as she ran errands and made a brief stop at the local Walmart.
She caught a glimpse of this woman, her arms full of shopping bags.
Libby paused and asked if she needed help to carry them to her car.
The woman turned to her, and in broken English, confessed that she didn’t have a car.

Momentarily torn between her list of errands and this struggling woman,
Libby offered her a ride home.
As they loaded the groceries into the car, the woman explained that she was from Cameroon and had 8 children.
She smiled and said
“I know that it was God who stopped you and prompted you to ask me if I needed help!
You are a blessing!
Every day I ask God for strength.
Every day He helps me through.”

Together, they talked about their shared love for God.
When Libby returned to Walmart to do her shopping, she couldn’t help but think how God prompts us to notice particular people at particular times.

Isn’t that like God?
Mutual blessing, mutual encouragement – through a chance encounter at Walmart.
