There were a few unknowns for Citizens Church as they begun almost five years ago.
First, they didn’t anticipate planting their church at the beginning of a global pandemic.
Second, they weren’t sure where they were going to meet.
Pastor Darcy Dueck and his team of leaders knew they were to plant to Elmira but didn’t have a building.
They started small which fit their focus on missional families, but then as they grew, they needed space.
So they prayed.
They didn’t really guess that the United Church in town might be the answer to their prayers.
The United Church building was going to be torn down in the near future to make way for an apartment building with a worship space on the main floor – but until that happened, they said that Citizen Church could use the space.
Darcy sees Citizens Church as being caretakers of their building and they try to honour them through this partnership.
They care for the building and are mindful about being presumptious.
It has been a great way to partner with them.
It’s been such a gift to Darcy and the church.
Looking back over the past few years, they’re grateful for God’s provision.
The future is foggy in terms of having space – there are no ready answers.
But, they know they can trust God.
Darcy said it’s like the children of Israel following the cloud by day and the pillar of fire by night.
They just move as the cloud moves.
This trust and reliance on God is just another one of God’s graces.
