Her family wasn’t a regular church-going family.
But they did say a little prayer at big holiday family get-togethers before diving into the turkey and mashed potatoes and gravy.
Believe it or not, hearing her mother say “Oh, Lord, may we be truly thankful” two or three times a year left a mark on her heart.
One year, her aunt faithfully took her for dinner several times.
She prayed for her.
Another woman in her circle was a role model of faith and a positive influence – someone she looked up to.
These are just two of the many people that God planted in this woman’s life to help guide her to God.
As she stood up in front of her church this fall and told her story in preparation for baptism, she acknowledge the spiritual encouragement she had received over the years that eventually led her to this moment.
And then she said this:
“And finally, I would like to encourage all the Jesus-followers in this room to never give up on the non-believers in your life.
They may seem hard on the outside and you may think you’re getting nowhere … but don’t give up.
You are closer than you think!”
Isn’t that the way Jesus taught us to pray?
Like the persistent widow looking for justice or the man in need of bread for his guests.
Let’s pray like this so that others may know God.
