Nuke Shim was on the verge of 20 when he fell in love with Jesus.
He was zealous but aimless in his new faith.
Then he met Ray who saw something in him.
Over a 2-year period by modeling and directing him to the Scriptures,
he taught Nuke how to have a daily quiet time,
how to study and apply its teaching to his life
and how to share his faith with others.
His investment in Nuke resulted in a deep conviction that he and every other follower of Jesus was commissioned by Jesus to go and make other disciples of the nations of the world beginning where they were.
Now, 60 years later, Nuke desires to continue to spiritually invest in those around him. This lifelong conviction has been evident in his 50 plus years with the Navigators,
the pioneering of a Mandarin Chinese congregation in Waterloo, ON,
and many years on the leadership team at Lincoln Road Chapel.
Now retired from organizational ministry, he meets with his grandchildren via zoom and in person for Bible study.
He is teaching a teenager who recently became a Christian how to read the Bible and how to pray – just like someone taught him.
Nuke refuses to believe that God has nothing for him to do.
Instead, he wants to continue to use his gifts of evangelism and disciple-making to help people grow spiritually and reproduce what he is seeking to do.
Nuke has an obvious and unmistakable love for people –
he takes such delight in spending time with people and developing relationship with them.
Over his 80 plus years, he’s had so many experiences – some positive and some heartbreaking.
But he has learned much over the years and his love for Jesus has only grown.
It is his favourite thing about God – that there is always the possibility to know God in a deeper way.
Even at 82 and after 60 years of ministry, he is still learning new things about God!
