Biblical illiteracy.
Wanting to learn more about God.
This challenge and desire of their church congregation caught Lynne and Shannon’s attention.
As seminary students themselves, they were grateful for their opportunity for intense study and they wanted to give others in their church a similar opportunity. After all, teaching and biblical education is the local church’s responsibility.
So they sought the leadership and, as a result, a team was created to build a School of Discipleship.
Three different classes – The Story of Redemption, Introduction to Theology and Doctrine, and Christ Formation.
8 weeks per class. 2 hours per class.
People are encouraged to sign up for the whole year as a sort of cohort.
There’s required reading and homework, but not so much that it’s overwhelming.
There’s practical application, relationship building, and group discussion.
The goal is for people to grow deeper in their knowledge and love of Christ.
Last year was a pilot project.
30 to 40 people who were hungry for something more and wanted to go deeper attended.
It was exciting to see the interest,
After all, that many evening classes is a big commitment.
But they found it worthwhile and they kept coming back.
It was a joy to see how God took an idea and created something bigger. To see that obedience to a little prompt from God led to people coming and working together step by step. It was a scary but beautiful step of faith that has led to great fruit!
