Jean-Sebastien of Eglise Grace et Vérité in Saint-Valere, QC realizes that people are not flocking to church.
So instead of expecting people to come to church, he is going out into the community.
He sees the community as his parish and the people of the community as the people that he needs to serve.
So he spends as much time as possible in the community and with the people.
(In fact, he interrupted our phone call to speak to a man he spotted out his window who had been isolated and hadn’t seen for a while!)
Sometimes needs are not apparent – often loneliness and suffering are hidden.
In fact, he’s working with an artist, Daniel Julien, from The Final Act, (a Christian organisation that equips the believers in art and helps connect many churches together to help churches have greater impact in their community).
This year, Daniel is connecting people from 2 other churches to come and form a Christmas choir in order to put on a concert sponsored by local business people to support a local community service agency.
Yes – that’s right!
He’s helping these churches show that they care about the community, recognizing that these people who need help are indeed precious and made in the image of God.
It’s not really what he imagined ministry might be.
But – to his surprise and God’s delight – it combines his passion for pastoring, his gift for evangelism, and his capacity to listen.
Let’s see what God might do.
