God’s Calling to the Suburbs – Forestview Church

To be honest, Oakville wasn’t his dream.
Although Johnny Gordon studied missions, had a heart for ministry, and was willing to serve God wherever, he might have been hoping for somewhere a bit further away or not so mainstream.
But here he is.
Johnny joined Forestview Church in Oakville, ON as the pastor of youth and adults a couple of years ago.
Looking back, he can see God’s wisdom in this all as God seemed to lay out a trail of breadcrumbs bringing him to Oakville.
Funnily enough, Nat Evans (Lead Pastor) had actually been his youth pastor so there’s already a relationship there. It’s shifting to less of a mentoring relationship to more of a co-working one as they think and work together how to love and serve the Forestview community.
But really, Johnny recognized that the ministry need is right here in Canada – in Oakville.
So he was obedient to the call of God to serve and minister the grace of God in the suburbs.

God has been gracious to confirm Johnny’s calling through the Forestview congregation.
Youth have said that they felt seen.
One youth said that youth is the only place where she feels like herself.
Another youth said the highlight of their week was ice-cream with him.

As they hold testimony nights and worship nights, Johnny is making sure that these youth know that they are not alone and that Jesus is King.
He sees them as people who are hungry for the abundant life that only Jesus gives.
And so – by the grace of God – he continues to follow the call of God and serve the youth and young adults in the suburbs.
