We Think We Have a Plan – University Chapel

We think we have a plan.

Then God comes up with something even better.

That’s what Karen Daniels said to me as we talked about things at University Chapel (Vancouver, BC).

University Chapel is in the midst of becoming “three families under one roof”.

The three different language congregations – English, Korean, Chinese – have the same vision but embody it slightly differently according to their own contexts.

Previously, the three congregations have shared space but acted more as independent churches.

As the Executive Coordinating Pastor, Karen’s job is to bring everyone together, build community, and facilitate life together.

Ten years ago, Karen would have said that she’d never be a pastor.

And now – this is literally her dream job.

Her passion to create spaces that build community and to organize big events that are all about belonging and growing together is allowed to fully blossom in her role as Executive Coordinating Pastor.

She says the thing she really loved about God right now is how God pulls all these things together.

Years ago, she couldn’t have imagined what things look like now.

It seemed so improbable.

God surprises us all the time with the goodness of God.

How do we stay wide awake to this so we know it when we see it?

And how do we best participate with God?
