As a kid, he loved playing around with his dad’s video camera.
He’d make funny videos and learned some editing and other technical skills along the way.
It was a creative expression that suited him.
He didn’t know that his video tech skills would someday be a key part of his ministry.
Now, Desi Lederer, Students Pastor at Charleswood Community Church in Winnipeg, uses those skills when he speaks or directs Bible camp each summer.
As the school year winds down, Desi starts brainstorming video possibilities for summer camp.
In fact, chapel is often a favourite feature for campers because they know it will probably include some wacky and wonderful creative videography.
Desi is thrilled to be able to communicate the gospel in a compelling way for youth.
This past summer at Faith Bible Camp, Desi was the chapel speaker for one of the weeks of camp.
The theme was bugs and Desi was the Bug Man.
He spent the week talking about how every bug is made in its own unique way. And if God puts that much thought into tiny creatures, how much more care has He put into each of them?
“You were made on purpose and for a purpose” was the weeks tag line.
And of course, there were videos that he had created that went along with the chapel sessions.
Kids laughed and learned more about God and the Spirit of God was at work.
Bringing all of ourselves to ministry – including our interests and hobbies and unique skills – is key.
God can use all of these things for His purposes and mission as we proclaim the good news of the gospel.
