Community Food Pantry – Montague Christian Church

In the last couple of years, residents of Prince Edward Island have endured the highest inflation rates in the country, according to CBC news.
Feeding a family can seem like a huge, if not impossible, task.
For people on fixed incomes, buying groceries can be especially stressful these days.

With the alarming food inflation rate and the increased pressure on the local food bank in recent years, Montague Christian Church, PEI, decided to love their neighbours with a Community Pantry.
It’s a little shed with a red roof in the church parking lot and remains open 24 hours a day.
The slogan is “Share what you can, take what you need.”
People from the church monitor the pantry, replacing items and putting out the call for food items as needed.
The local food bank also stocks the pantry.

Pastor Paul Millar feels like this pantry is all about being faithful to God’s command to love our neighbours.
The church asked themselves, “What can we do to serve our community?”—and the food pantry was an idea that resonated with the church members.
It’s also a way to invite the community to join them in mission.
Believing that this act of service is part of proclaiming the good news of Jesus, they continue to pray for their community and wonder how God might use this.
