Every Sunday morning, as part of their call to worship, Hollydene Church in Victoria kicks off their service with “The Week That Was.”
It’s a bit like a family catchup.
They take a few minutes to talk about what’s happened that week –
the school shooting in Texas,
Bob’s retirement,
an update of Sue’s chemo treatments,
the recent house fire in the neighbourhood,
the church picnic on the beach last Friday night.
It’s a way of catching up on what’s going on – it builds community and lets people care about each other.
But perhaps even more importantly, it’s a way of bringing all of themselves to worship
Here they are – offering everything to God, their whole lives – individually and corporately.
Not just their Sunday selves – but their Monday to Saturday lives as well.
It’s a liturgical orientation of their whole lives towards God.
A reminder of who they are and what God is calling them towards.
