A seminary student relocated to a new city in a new country.
A friend said he’d ask his church for help.
And they did.
Help with finding suitable housing.
Household furnishings for the new apartment.
The loan of a car.
A welcome to a Canadian dinner table.
The seminary student was, of course, grateful.
This was so kind,
so generous –
he indeed felt welcome and cared for in such practical ways.
But he was also surprised when he went with his friend to the church who had helped him.
He thought this must have been a big church.
With lots of people.
A big budget.
Imagine his astonishment when he realized that this was just a small gathering of God’s people.
A small church with a big love for Jesus and neighbour.
And a clear sense of mission.
Note: If you’re a part of a small church and you are reaching out to those around you with the love and truth of God, please let me know at elizabeth.millar@vision-ministries.org. I’d love to tell your story. It gives glory to God and encouragement to other small church leaders!
