Imagine a celebration of marriage renewal vows –
not inspired by a rekindling of marital love necessarily –
but a desire to be married before Christ.
This past September, on a weekend when many couples were getting married across Canada, 14 couples from Spirit of Truth Church were saying their marriage vows for a second time.
These couples had been married in the Muslim tradition or in a civil ceremony –
But this time, they wanted to say their vows before God.
So they did – and celebrated with music and food and their church family.
When I asked what difference a Christian marriage meant, the reply was:
Equality before God.
A humbling of one’s self before God
And the lifting up of the other.
Oh, nicely said.
God at work making marriages beautiful.
