The Prodigal Son
We all know the story of the Prodigal Son.
Perhaps one of Jesus’ most famous little stories.
It grabbed Rembrandt’s attention 1500 years later.
And almost 500 years after that, it inspired Henri Nouwen to write a book.
One particular congregation, though, actually saw, experienced, and participated in this sort of forgiveness and reconciliation right in their own context.
A disgruntled congregant.
Upset and angry.
Left the church.
Who needs them anyways? I’m better off without them!
But then … well … perhaps …
And with a humble heart, this man returned.
And it was with open arms, his church family welcomed him home.
More than just a good story.
More than just a theory or a good teaching.
This was the love and forgiveness of Jesus in action.
