While VMC Transitional Pastor Doug Loveday’s grey hair makes it plain that he’s got a few years under his belt, one of the great joys of transitional ministry is working with younger people in the church.
Recently, Doug and Ruth spent about a year and a half at a church between pastors.
They also worked with several younger people in the church to give them opportunity to preach.
This involved asking them to prepare as well as they could from the Scripture,
To get together to share their thoughts and collaborate,
To receive suggestions for strengthening the sermon,
To pray together.
After the message was preached, they gave feedback about strengths and growth areas.
It was a joy to see these young people rise to the challenge and grow in their skill.
The people in the church were greatly encouraged to see this discipleship happen.
Doug and Ruth’s observation was that this could be practiced in every church as part of discipling the Next Generation.
Discipleship is much more than this, but surely it includes a skillful handling of God’s beautiful Good News.
Sounds like Matthew 28:16-20!
