Be encouraged by the unity building that is happening in Ethiopia through one of VMC’s church planters, Girma Bekele.
Girma was privileged to travel to Ethiopia this spring for seven weeks and addressed several large audiences.
At the Wycliffe Global Alliance, he was able to speak on how a missiological understanding of Scripture informs the identity and mission of the Church.
Then he went on to participate in the Committee of Mutual Christian Responsibility (CMCR), hosted by the Ethiopian Evangelical Church Mekane Yesus. He encouraged listeners towards a renewed missional commitment, noting that Ethiopian evangelicalism has a crucial role to play in the current mission field.
Next was a pastoral plea for renewed missional evangelical unity in the form of a public lecture at the Ethiopian Graduate School of Theology. He says, “in our nation today, two pressing contemporary missiological challenges confront us: the quest for peace and the pursuit of evangelical unity.”
Lastly, Girma was able to preach at various churches and participate in a five day prayer and fasting initiative organized by Full Gospel Churches in the city of Hawassa. Seeking the Lord together for missional renewal and revival is foremost on the hearts of the Ethiopian believers.
Pray for Girma as he prepares to speak at the upcoming evangelical pastors’ conference in June, where he will address over 3000 pastors on the theme of Radical Discipleship. May God grant him much grace and wisdom as he participates in the mission of God!
