Emergency Warming Center – Orillia Community Church

Orillia Community Church takes their middle name seriously.
So about three years ago, when the churches and social agencies in their city decided to focus on the homelessness crisis, they wondered how they could be a part of the community effort.

Orillia Community Church is in an old movie theatre in the downtown core.
They recognize that space is expensive so they offered to provide their building, along with utilities and insurance.
Another group offered to accept donations and train staff and volunteers.
The food bank donated snacks and hot drinks.
A local business supplied the mattresses and a coffee shop contributed coffee.
Together they provide a safe place for up to 32 people each night who would otherwise be on the street.

As an embodiment of God’s love for their community, Orillia Community Church wants to intentionally welcome their neighbours.

Pastor Michael Bells (pictured here) says that the leadership and congregation is convinced that the gospel is indeed Good News – and they want their church to be known as a positive and essential part of the community.
